The 2024 Oil Can Classic took place in Ardmore, Oklahoma at the Hardy Murphy Coliseum from April 26 through 28 and hosted judged roping sanctioned by the American Rope Horse Futurity Association (ARHFA). The start time was delayed due to the inclement weather on Sunday, but the tornados did not effect the show.
As team roping continues to outgrow any other Western Performance Horse event, the futurity ropings are growing in popularity. They give ropers an opportunity to season young horses before heading to rodeos or jackpots and judge horses based on the proper execution of the roping run, not just speed.
Over the weekend, spectators witness many offspring by Western Performance Horse sires perform in the roping pen being ridden by the best of the best. Joseph Harrison won the Open Heading Futurity, Open Heeling Futurity, and Open Heeling Pre-Futurity.
